ROOKIE MANEUVER......  I was just realizing that I'm not thinking clearly, beginning to shut it down and deleting some finished projects and.....BZZZZZT!  This is why I have stacks and stacks of hard drives in the house.....because I'm afraid of this type of thing.

Well, it's been a long damn time but I went ahead and deleted an entire folder with a half finished project contained in it and unless there is some new magical thing that I don't know about I've likely lost 8 or so hours of work........  Should I use the sawed off or the 45?   Grin

The brutal part is that I know it's out there on that hard drive somewhere......any way to get it back?

I suppose I'll throw A1 in the camera and begin the capture process......^%#^%^%&%&^%......    I guess I thought I'd never do this again?

Oh well, it's a lot easier to swallow when you've done it before and it will probably only take 3-4 hours to redo.

Stupid, stupid, stupid....

 Grin

Ouch.

And I suppose you're not on a Mac - otherwise you'd be clicking on Time Machine and just restoring it all - right ?

Check your "Trashcan", the files may be easily recoverable, but someones files are too large for Windows Trashcan. When that happens, here's what you do -

DO NOTHING ON THAT COMPUTER!  Especially do not write any files onto that same harddrive.  There are programs that can "un-delete" files.  I'm not sure what is popular today, but a bit of Googling will find something for you.  When Windows deletes files, it doesn't actually remove them.  It just marks the drive space ready to be reused.  That is why you don't want to write anything on that drive.

Good luck!

Post the computer and OS you're using.

Definitely stop using the computer if you can. As Hank said, there are several programs (some free, some not, some good, some not) that will retrieve deleted files from the drive.

About 8 months ago I deleted a complete project. Luckily, I had already delivered it to the client. I still didn't want to entirely delete it though. Anyways, I'm on a MacBook Pro, and I was able to retrieve bits and pieces of the project (I'd say, 90% of the total project). If you're on a Mac, let me know and I'll let you know of a few different programs.

I'm with Jason,
I had a entire wedding that was finished and due in a few days deleted. I was able to restore it except for 2 clips that restored from the tapes. The bride was never the wiser...

It's nice to know that I am not the only one who is capable of such a rookie mistake.  I use to save entire projects on a second drive then save the premiere project on both drives as well.  I may go back to that.  I could not recover the video files but it only took about 3 hours to replace 8 hours of work because I remembered all the cuts.

Thanks all!

Too late for Todd, but for the guy who did this same thing and found this thread through Google -

http://downloads.zdnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=1307361&tag=nl.e530

It's a free file recovery program for Windows.  Supposed to work on files emptied from (or never placed in due to size, etc.) the Recycle Bin, even brings back files deleted from iPods, etc.

I tried one called Recuver(?) from filehippo.com.  I'll download this one for next time.
