Here's a quick comparison between the Panasonic Lumix GH1 in camera audio and my new Zoom H4N 4 track audio recorder:

It was pretty windy, and the difference it night and day.

Nick - So Chicago really IS the windy city, huh?

Yes, your dr reduced the wind noise pretty well, but it also seemed to attenuate the audio.

Checkout one of our sponsors - The Windcutter - http://www.thewindcutter.com

They have reasonably priced and effective fur muffs that tame the wind and also help indoors with "splosives".

We LOVE LOVE LOVE our Zoom.  We couldn't live without it.

This product is also carried at Abel Cine Tech:

Half the price of my Marantz 660 and looks just as good, if not better.  Good call!

I have a Zoom H4N that I use to plug in to Church sound boards and for speeches etc.   I love it.

My only gripe is that with some Shure SM58S mics plugged in to channels 3 & 4 (via XLR) the pre-amps can be a bit noisy in really quiet environments and it takes a little bit of cleaning up in Soundtrack Pro.

I do like the 4 track recording ability because it means I can have the Zoom located centrally (getting great stereo sound) and two other mics (either wired or wireless) coming to tracks 3 & 4.
