Edius 5.5

Hello All,
Anyone here use Edius to edit? I have my new HD cameras that shoot in AVCHD, and Premiere and Vegas both choke really bad on them. I downloaded the demo of Edius Neo 2.5, and it was amazing. Handles 4 layers of full HD no problem. Great software, easy to pick up. I think i've found my new NLE.
I'm going to pick up the full Edius 5.5 with an academic discount for $159. You can't beat that.

The price sure sounds right. But I've used both Premiere and Vegas to edit AVCHD and didn't have any problems with either. If you try one of those programs again, be sure your hardware is totally compatible and that your system is properly setup for editing. That means that you have all temp files on a separate internal drive (not system drive), and preferably that your other project files are on still another drive (not system drive). Also, it is recommended to be running 64bit os if editing compressed hi-def.

While my rig may not be state of the art, I think it's pretty solid:
Core 2 Quad 2.83ghz
4GB DDR2
Win 7 64bit
2x 300gb 7200RPM in RAID 0 for system drive
1TB 7200RPM for storage
Both premiere and vegas choked pretty bad on 1080p AVCHD, while Edius is handling 3 streams smooth. It's pretty impressive.
I don't think I'm being held up by my RAM either, I never went above 3GB utilized according to my performance monitor.

I believe the 64 bit os takes up the 1st gig of ram. Let us know more about your Edius experience as your projects move along, sounds interesting.
