FCP issues

A friend of mine has been working with a Mac and is having capture problems. The factory has replaced the motherboard and they have wiped the drives, reloaded everything all to no avail. They have spent time on the phone with the mfg and have supposedly set things the way they are supposed to be set. Still the thing will not capture at all. It will capture in Premiere but not FCP. This would seem to indicate a software problem or a settings problem but not necessarily. I know there is a work around of capturing on PP and then inporting but there has to be an answer. Any of you FCP users ever encountered anything like this? Any suggestions?

If it works in PP but not in FCP that does imply a software issue rather than hardware, but it's hard to say much beyond that from the information you provided. What type of source video are you trying to capture (e.g. DV, HDV), what type of deck or camera are you using to play the footage, what's the connection method to the computer, and what software and process are you using to try to capture into FCP?
I'm not a Mac expert, but those are the sorts of questions you should ask to trouble-shoot the problem.

I am an FCP user....
Exactly what is it that they are trying to capture, and how are they trying to do it?
Did it ever work, but it broke or is this the first time they tried it?

Sorry gentlemen. Trying to get him on these forums to provide that info. Please keep an eye here. I am pretty sure they are capturing HDV though.
