I am just beginning to edit with HD video. I have a project that was sent to me in all mp4. I have converted it to Pro Res 422 to edit in Final Cut Pro. Once completed I need to have it deinterlaced, and then create a DVD in DVD Studio Pro. Can someone please give me an exact step by step explanation of exactly how to do this?  Obviously, I want it to look as high quality as possible. I have researched many sites looking for info on each step of this and have gotten totally overwhelmed. I know that it needs to be exported in some form, go through compressor and then into DVD Studio Pro. However, each stage of this seems to have so many questions and correct setting requirements that i do not know what I'm doing...
At this point, I really just need a very clear step by step way to do this on my mac. And when I say "step by step," I mean assume that I do not know what you're talking about. Sorry, as I said, I am totally overwhelmed!
Thanks so much for considering taking the time to help me out!

I think you may be confused.   DVD is interlaced, so if your footage is interlaced they you should be good to go.

We no longer work in FCP, but we used FCP for years so I do know how it's all done.

1) Export your final sequence from FCP to a ProRes 422 file in HD.  DO NOT use Quicktime conversion, just export it as-is.

2) Assuming you have compressor in your dock (if not - drop it in to your dock) drag the exported file on to the compressor icon and compressor will launch using this file as the source.

3) In compressor, bottom left window find DVD 90 min (or 120 if it's longer) and drag that selection on top of your video (which will be in the top left window).

4) Submit.  Compressor with now chew on the HD file and make two new files for you, one video and one audio.  These are the files you then bring in to DVD Studio Pro.

5) TIP!  Add your chapter markers in FCP prior to export.  Compressor with not only preserve these, but also use them as a compression guide, placing a keyframe on the chapter marker.

The easiest way to learn this stuff is by spending $25 on a once month subscription to Lynda.com and then watch the tutorials by Larry Jordan.  He walks you through all this stuff very easily for FCP/Compressor and DVD Studio Pro.
