I just got back from shooting an outdoor wedding. Well, it was supposed to be outdoors. About a half hour before the ceremony was supposed to start, it began to rain VERY heavily. I had had my cameras and everything all set up and ready to go. They decided to go with the backup plan and do the ceremony at the reception hall. I grabbed all my gear and took it to my van and by the time I got there, I was soaked. I might as well have been swimming in my clothes. So I had to shoot the ceremony soaking wet. Wow, was that fun. Anyway, I think it worked out for the better. The reception hall had a nice backdrop and looked great for the video. I got some really great footage anyway and I may send this one in for my certification if it's as good as I think it is. I'm off to bed!

Sounds like a tough shoot.  It was a weekend for tough shoots I guess, because mine was, well.."interesting" also.

Your post got me to thinking - I've got rain covers for three of our four cameras, but what about the receivers and transmitters?  Those things aren't waterproof and they're expensive!  We could stick the receivers inside the camera's rain covers I suppose, but transmitters and microphones could be left exposed.

Rain can't be a good thing, even for lavs.  I wouldn't shoot a wedding in a downpour, but we do have to be ready to shoot in a drizzle.   In fact, we shot a beach wedding in Florida once where it was drizzling as the bridesmaids started coming down the "aisle".  Thankfully, it quit after a few minutes.

One things for sure - after reading your post, I'll bring my rain suit (generally used only for canoe-camping trips).  That would be miserable to have to shoot an entire wedding while soaked.  I think we should award you the "ABCD" award - "Above and Beyond the Call of Duty"!

Wow! Never been down that road before but I suppose it awaits all of us at some point. Any equipment damage? If not how did you prevent it?

All the gear was fine fortunately. I don't have "raincoats" for the cameras so I use black garbage bags taped on with electrical tape. It works really well but the rain was coming down sideways and really hard, so I was a bit nervous. The last wedding I did it rained a little too and was very windy. Whatever happened to getting married in a church!
