by Chuck Delaney, published by Allworth Press (1994)
This book is too dated to be worthwhile and written by a photographer who knows little about videography, but it is still on shelves at many bookstores and has little competition in its subject matter, so..
Here's a line that gets my blood boiling:
..two-camera coverage isn't necessary.
but Chuck nearly redeems himself on the next page:
The video you view should be sharp, well exposed and most of all, steady. The sound should be clear and well recorded.
Keep an eye on the technical quality, but concentrate on the storytelling. Do the shots follow each other in an order that advances the story? Is there a variety of shot length, camera angle and duration?
Those last two quote boxes hold a ton of good advice for brides watching sample wedding videos!
DeLaney also talks openly about friction between photographers and videographers, while offering a lot of sound advice to brides. Perhaps he only needs to update his book (and talk to me first about how many video cameras are needed!)
