Absolutely brilliant, Adam.  I loved every second of it.

Stylistically speaking, the only thing I would change is the font for "cherish it" at the end.  The preceding font fit very well with the mood and excitement of the piece, however, the more calligraphic font of that last little piece kind of threw me off for a second.  Calligraphy font to me suggests a more romantic, slower type of mood...not at all what your entire piece was about.  I would suggest something similar to the preceding font that you used for "It's your wedding day."

Maybe "cherish it" should fade in and out to black in something of a stronger font that you previously used.  To me, that makes more of a memorable "Hollywood" type statement.  The other font looks too much like something from digital hotcakes, and your work is way too original for that.  (nothing against digital hotcakes...it just isn't Adam, though)

That's just my two cents...from a very "newbie" point of view.  I may be new, but I know style...and you definitely have it!

Oh, and no exclamation point.  Just a period.  I think that is more dramatic as well.

Sorry...I hate giving my opinion when you have no way of getting even with me.  I'm working on it, I'm working on it...

Trust me...you'll have plenty to say about mine.  Mine looks like yours in my head...and then I see it in real life and ugh...I have a lot to learn!

Great observation!  I think all of us see our video like Adam's in our heads, then we sit in front of our monitors and... Oh well, maybe next time!

What? No pyrotechnics? I have to say, I'm kinda dissapointed  :?

Okay, but seriously, I LOVE this video. It's great, and I'll try to come up with something to say for you to improve upon it, but I'll be honest, it won't be an easy task. For now, though, I'll just say great work.

Oh, and nice touch, adding in your moonrise video. I may have to steal a page or two from your playbook for my '08 video.

I'll save my tips to improve this video for last, but first I want to ask - how could you risk missing the cake-feeding shot with this "reveal" move?

You didn't miss it, of course - your timing was impeccable and it's a beautiful shot, but it was just a little risky, no?  Or was this staged after the actual cake event?

OK, now for my tips -

Add "Produced by CastelloProductions.com" to the ending title screen.  There - now isn't that better?

I wonder if, due to the fast pace and period-centricness, some brides might feel that this doesn't represent the mental image of their romanticized version of their wedding?  This might appeal more to guys than to gals???

I don't know, I think you guys underestimate us gals.  I loved it.  We chicks aren't always about hearts, rainbows, and all that cutsie stuff.  You'd really be surprised at what we notice and like when we are watching demo videos.

We girls will watch a million demo videos, mostly to get ideas for our own weddings, and we know for a fact there's no way that we're going to get our men to watch them all with us.  There's something in our genetics that we just love to watch other people's weddings...and then tear them apart.  We narrow the choices down to the few videos we like best and then let our guys watch them.  At this point the guy shrugs his shoulders and says, "I don't know...whatever YOU want.  But I kinda liked that one by that Forever Endeavor guy.  That was pretty cool."

Then we pick Adam's video because it was the only one we got any feedback on.  When our man comes back at us later and says "YOU SPENT HOW MUCH ON A STUPID WEDDING VIDEO???!!!"  We simply say, "Well, honey, it was your idea..."

Point is, we always run our favorite choices by our men when we've narrowed it down.  Our men would NEVER tell us that they liked the cutsie stuff best.  So you really do have to keep the men somewhat involved...we do listen to them a little.

And boy do we know how to get what we want!  I would have loved to have shown this video to my fiance when I was making my decision.  He would have loved it, of course, and preferred it over the other ones I looked at.  Then he would have had a heart attack at the price!  But how could he choose one of the others after he saw that?

OK, I was so impressed by the thing that I didn't have the heart to put this stuff in the same post. Just an observation or two. I'll have to agree about the ending font thing. Also, Matfam, this is definately a case where very short clips work well. Adam has tied them to the beat of the music and strung the clips of varying length together in such a way that it makes all the sense in the world.

Two more questions: 1. Is there a cooler piece of equipment on the planet than a glidecam? 2. Is there a more talented glidecam shooter on the planet than Adam Hoggat?

Oh by the way, my wife watched it and she loved it too.

Wow guys (and girl)! I wasn't quite expecting such a reaction but thank you!

About the font:

I would never have chosen it if it hadn't been designed for my brochure and business card. The fonts were meant to match the rest of the material (which the font looks way better on). I was trying to be consistent so all my material could be mentally tied together in people's heads. You can see what I mean if you look at my brochure:

Anyhow, thanks again!

Adam,

How did you animate the "It's your wedding day" part?  I have been trying to add some animation to my statements like this, and I can't quite get it to look right.  Is it a plug-in from your software, or did you actually animate the letters?  I've been trying to do something similar to what you did for one type of "dramatic" mood, or have the letters wash in and wash out for the times when I'm doing something a little more "romantic."  I saw the "wash in" effect the other night when I was watching "House" and some preview for another show came on.

That's how original I am...I'm always stealing my ideas from TV shows and commercials and then trying to recreate them.  Either that or I'm stealing them from people on this site!

Souvenir,

They do say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. :-)

Actually, in the last decade plus change, I've had the chance to speak with several different independent filmmakers, some of which you might even have heard of if you follow the big film festivals. I've also talked to folks who teach filmmaking and video production, and even taken an actual class or two in my day. The one thing that I always hear from real pros in the field is that most of their stuff is an imitation of someone else's work. "Well, I was really trying to recreate the style that (so and so) used in his movie (such and such)." and "My real inspiration behind this was the (whatever) era films" are two of many lines I've heard from people who make good money taking ideas from others.

And it's not just the independent film circuit and production classrooms that borrow ideas. Big shots in the movie world do it all the time. Take the movie "Grindhouse" for example (actually, the double feature). The whole concept behind that movie was to replicate the feeling of a b-movie grindhouse presentation. And big names put that together. How many ideas of others have great film comedians like Mel Brooks taken?

The bottom line is that as long as you're not committing plagiarisms, i.e. actually using someone else's footage as your own, I think it's a great honor to have someone take your ideas as inspiration for making their own projects. Just remember to give them credit when you're up there getting your Emmy Award

Actually, Adam's video has so inspired myself, as well. To date, most of my demos have been slow or medium tempo, just like 95% of the videography demos out there. There's this neat little fast paced track I have wanted to do something with since I got the Music collection it came with, and after seeing this demo, I think I'm going to use it for at least one version of my '08 demotisement. (I call it that because 2 minutes isn't a real "demo", but it's not exactly an "advertisement" per say either.) I'll post it here once I get it done, and we can all see how much my talent pales in comparison to the master's :-)

Souvenir,

My text was animated in After Effects. I use it a ton. Those particular animations are presets built into AE but it helps to know how to do stuff from scratch as well. If you have AE I definitely recommend learning it. Once you get the hang of how it works you can do just about anything with it.

Almost everything I do is taken from others' work that I liked. Of course, you have to make it your own but I recommend keeping notes of stuff that others do that you want to re-create to give you ideas when editing.
