VideoMaker magazine - got to hand it to the VM guys this month, they've really gone all out to produce a fine issue!

Zoom In and "Quick Focus" have newsworthy items, even if some look more like advertising than info pieces. "New Gear" has an interesting DVD printer by Dymo and a blurb about Labelflash, which allows burning of 400dpi "deep-blue" labels when burned with a Labelflash-enabled burner.

Remember when we used to complain that VM was just for brand-spanking new beginners and we wanted more "pro" content?  With "Test Bench" reviewing an eighteen hundred dollar wireless set and a music program costing five grand, I was starting to wonder if they'd gotten a bit more "pro" than I could stand.

I felt a lot better when I saw Charlie Fulton's beautiful grid comparing nearly every consumer and prosumer camera offering available.  When CF sets his spreadsheet to attack video information, you're guaranteed a grid you'll enjoy.

John Devcic did a nice page-and-a-halfer on camera formats.  I really liked Jeanne Rawlings "The Craft of Family History Videos". Wisely, VM gave her several pages, but she needs to write a book.

You'll get something useful out of "8 On-the-fly Guerrilla Production Tips" and again VM gave the author, James Williams this time, several pages.  I wish eventDV would pay attention and give more of their writers some real estate to sink their teeth deeper into their topics.

By the way, it appears eventDV has dropped my subscription after my article about their article written by Mike Nelson!  If someone would kindly send me theirs when they finish with it, I'd appreciate it.

Well, I thought I was near the end of the VM December issue when I got to several pages of ads, but lo and behold there was more content, and good stuff too!  Composition Tips for 16:9 by Kyule Cassidy is worth your time as is Planning Your Shoot by Robert G. Nulph Ph.D.  Beginners will learn something from Morgan Paar's "Ripple-n-Roll, Slip-n-Slide" and they threw in "The Art of the Remix" by Hal Robertson just to make sure we couldn't complain of thin content.

Nice job, VM!  If you're not a subscriber - get out to your local newstand and snatch up December 2007 Videomaker magazine!

Good suggestion, Hank.  Sounds like a beneficial issue to pick up.   I just subscribed for a free trial issue at their website and if you don't like it, just write 'Cancel' on the bill they send you and that's that!  All they need is your address.

Apparently the people over at event DV read these forums and took pity on me for not receiving my November issue.   Our mailbox held two issues this morning - a regular appearing one and one in an envelope mailed at a cost of $4.60 !

Thanks!  I was going through eventDV witdrawals!

Taking the edge off of my excitement was the fact that the cover headline and image is "Trashing the Dress"!  (Oh, how romantic!).

Next, subhead was a tutorial for an Apple program.

So far they have lost the interest of all sane readers (with the first headline) - roughly 50% of us - and all PC users (90%). Thankfully, there are always some gems within.
