This has been one of the most popular event video cameras of the HD era, but is now outclassed by the newer Z7U at a similar price. The Z1U is an advanced version of the Sony FX1, with several upgrades including XLR inputs and more image quality controls. Like the FX1 the Z1U struggles in dim lighting, but if you drop the shutter to 1/30 and let gain go to +12 or more it's functional in most situations. You can also use "picture profiles" to boost color saturation (which tends to be muted) and change many other camera settings.

If you're on a tight budget the Sony FX1 with separate XLR adapter is a better value than the Z1U, but the latter is a more professional tool.

Hi - I'm using the Sony Z1U - its a pleasure - beauty  Smiley - I dont work with HD on the moment. The low light conditions is very good!  Far better than the PD170 - any other Sony Z1 users?

All the best

I think you'd better try that comparison again.  Maybe you meant to type some other model # and not PD170 which with its VX2100 brethern holds the belt in the low-light division.

Hi - I do apologize - I've hired a Pd170 for a Bride of the Year function - and compare that with the Z1 and for me personal the Z1 delivered a clearer picture without pixalation - So I dont now the PD170 that well but I've spoke to my supplier and he also confirmed that the Pd170 is the better option in low light - maybe I've done something wrong with the Pd170?

Thank you and have a great day
All the best
