Hi All,

Everywhere I go I see all these recommendations about what you should remove, what you should take out of the STARTUP MENU, etc. etc. for these Adobe Products to run.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

Todd, I've been running CS4 on Vista ultimate without lockups, etc.  I did a standard install of Windows and of CS4.  I also have other video-related software installed as well as Nortons - just no video games and no shareware download stuff.

If after several months, your system seems to slow down, check your TSRs  (terminate and stay ready programs).  Occasionally check your task manager and try to weed out unnecessary items, but if you do this, you must backup your registry files in case you accidentally remove something vital.

Sounds good.

I guess I may have to buy a copy of Vista 64 soon.  CS4 Runs well now on my laptop but:

1.  I crashes if I re-import an .AVI that CS4 created to go to DVD Architect.
2.  It still won't capture.  I did find what looks like a second IEEE driver (I think, I don't really know what I'm doing with this stuff) and I clicked on it.  I'll see if it will capture now, then try a different camera with both.

Todd.

Shucks, I didn't know a driver was needed for firewire!  Windows just natively handles it.  I haven't had to configure or install anything for firewire support on any of our five computers.

Now you know how much I know about the systems end of computers.

Not sure why it won't capture.

Here's a starter kit on all the suggested BS you have to do to make CS4 supposedly run correctly.  I think the Videoguys stuff may just be general computer optimizing.

http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html  To remove CS3 only?

Lots of stuff at Videoguys too but hard to find sometimes on that site.

Some of those tweaks I definitely would not do.  In fact, you can safely disregard all of them.

In my brief experience with Windows Vista, I'd say turning off the User Account Control (UAC) is almost essential for a tolerable user experience. With UAC on you get security messages so often it's excruciating, and makes me glad I'm still using Window XP for editing.
