In case you hadn't noticed, VM is trying to keep their readers after they've acquired experience and so have been including content for both novices and semi-pro / pro readers for the past couple years now.

The April issue (that I'm just now getting around to reading) includes a couple of articles on audio, including "Recording Good Audio".   Since I blasted a recent event dv article on the topic, I felt it only fair to note that this VM article was right on the money.  I do wish it had more focus on weddings and other live events, but the info certainly pertains to all types of videography.

If I had to change any part of this article, I would change the part where the author says that foam windscreens are good for non-moving mics and fur muffs are better for mics on the move.  As Einstein said, movement is relative and in this case mic movement is relevant to the air.  Thus, it would have been more informative perhaps if it said that foam mics are OK for indoor use on stationary mics but most other usage calls for fur muffs.

In any case, a first-rate article, kudos to author Edward B. Driscoll, Jr. and to VM.

Although I welcome them addressing the topic, I will not be so kind to VM's article on "Directing the Non-Pro", but I have so much to say here that I will instead use it as this month's WVDR article.  Look for it on our home page shortly.  - Hank
